Smoothie Cubes

Good Afternoon friends, I hope this finds you all well and that 2020 is being kind to you so far.

All 4 of my kids love smoothies & I love not wasting fruit that’s getting a tad old plus being organised with all meal preps etc when I can.

I try & keep ‘smoothie cubes’ in the freezer at all times so the kids can grab them to make a quick smoothie on the run for breakfast or afternoon tea etc

The basis of it is anything you would normally pop into a smoothie (except the milk), blitz then freeze.

Then when using them, add 1-3 cubes to a blender etc with milk of choice & blitz & enjoy. How many cubes you add will depend on how much milk you are adding & how big your ice cubes are. With these large cubes in the picture, (silicone ones I just bought from Kmart!), we use 1-2 per smoothie.

We have a Thermie machine which is pretty great for getting through the ice, if you aren’t sure if your machine will take the large ice cubes, please be careful and do one cube at a time and consider defrosting the cubes for a few minutes first so they are not as hard. 

I will list here what I made in these cubes in the photo but as mentioned, use anything you would normally use for a delicious and nutritious smoothie.

Ingredients

2 x over ripe bananas

2 x mango flesh

approx 1/2 – 3/4 cup fresh raspberries

a good large handful of baby spinach

1/2 cup raw and unsalted cashews

1/4 cup chia seeds

4-5 tblspns protein powder

2 tblspns coconut oil

 

Method

Blitz all ingredients of your choice together and freeze in ice cube trays. 

Once frozen, add 1-3 cubes to milk of you choice, blitz to make your smoothie and enjoy.
